Dr. Thomas C. Chuang received his PhD degree in Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Year 1981. He received a B.S. degree from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan in Year 1977. He also received a MBA degree from the University of Delaware. He has had twenty years experience working for international well-known companies like Eastman Kodak, DuPont, Raytheon Corp. in the areas of R&D, Manufacturing and Project Management in Medical Equipment, Computer Validation, Electronic Imaging equipment and Instrumentation business. Working experiences include FDA Computer Validation, Computer Imaging System Design and Integration, Printing and Publishing Imaging Science, Electrostatics, Radiographic Imaging Science, Laser Electro-Optics, Electronic Imaging, Sensor Design, Cryogenics, Electromechanical Process Control, Instrumentation and Data Acquisition, Statistical Process Control, etc.

Dr. Chuang has extensive publications and academic interests in the following areas.

- Natural Language Processing, where information retrieval, computer-aided language learning, machine translation are the major interests.

- Image Processing, where biometric characteristics extraction, detection and pattern recognition are the major interests.

- Pattern Recognition, where digital data hiding, image compression, Internet data security are the major interests.

- Neural Network, where AI algorithms and image compression are the major interests.

- Superconductor and Superfluid, where thermodynamics of Superfluid and dynamic and transient quench of superconductors are the major interests.

- Nanotechnology, where nano materials involving conductive and transparent thin films are the major interests.

Dr. Chuang joined Vanung University, Taiwan in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering as a consultant and a professor for many years. Currently, he is serving as the President of Vanung University. With his multidisciplinary backgrounds in both academic and industrial areas, and advanced degrees in both Engineering and Business, Dr. Chuang is committed to bring Vanung University to a new millennium. He firmly believes that college students can best learn when they practice listening, thinking, questioning, applying and integrating processes simultaneously. Also, a strong tie between the industry and the university can warrant both the faculty and the students to keep abreast of state-of-the-art technologies and therefore maximize their contributions to the society. Having lived and worked globally in different counties, Dr. Chuang believes that the world is forming a global village where the distance between people is rapidly shrinking, thanks for the advancement of transportation and information technologies. Therefore, international collaboration will be emphasized to broaden the vision of the faculties and students, and therefore raise their horizon.
